Brief History of The Division

The Division has been in existence since 2001 after De-Merging the Department of Physical Planning from the Department of Works and Services. The division have 4 different units and they are:

Landscape Design Unit

Space Utilization

Unit Studio Unit

Building Design Unit

Presently the Division has only one Staff – Mr. Jegede Oladapo. O.

The Division progressed from take-off point under the leadership of Arc. Awe F.C (2001-2020) before the left the University.

Landscape design Unit.

The landscape design unit in the university typically serves several key roles:

Space Utilization Unit

The space Utilization Unit in the university typically plays a crucial role in ensuring that the institution’s physical resources are used efficiently and effectively. Here are some of their key responsibilities:

  • Assessing the needs of various departments and units within the university and allocating space accordingly to ensure optimal use.
  • Managing the scheduling of classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories, and other facilities to maximize their use and minimize conflicts.
  • Identifying underutilized spaces and finding ways to repurpose or better use them. This can include converting spaces to meet changing needs.
  • Assisting in the planning and development of new buildings and facilities, ensuring that space utilization is considered in the design and construction phases.
  • Ensuring that spaces are equipped with the necessary resources, such as furniture, technology, and accessibility features, to support their intended use.

Studio Unit

The physical planning studio unit in the university typically plays a vital role in the development and maintenance of the campus environment, focusing on aspects of urban planning, architecture, landscape design, and sustainability. Here are some of its primary functions and responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the development of long-term master plans for the university, which guide the growth and development of the campus. This includes considerations of new buildings, renovations, green spaces, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Designing specific projects within the campus, such as new buildings, landscape features, and public spaces. The studio unit may be involved in all stages from conceptual design to detailed planning and overseeing construction.
  • Promoting sustainable practices in campus development, including energy-efficient buildings, water conservation, waste management, and the integration of green technologies.
  • Analysing the use of existing spaces on campus to identify areas for improvement and ensure efficient and effective use of physical resources.
  • Planning for the physical aspect of campus safety and emergency preparedness, including designing safe evacuation routes, ensuring accessibility, and integrating resilient infrastructure.

Building Design Unit

The building design unit plays a pivotal role in the physical planning of the university by overseeing the architectural and structural aspects of campus development. Here are the primary responsibilities and roles of a building design unit:

  • Creating design plans for new buildings and renovation projects. This includes conceptual design, detailed drawings, and specifications that align with the university’s goals and standards.
  • Contributing to the development of the university’s master plan, ensuring that building designs are integrated into the long-term vision for campus growth and development.
  • Ensuring that the design of buildings maximizes the use of space, supports the intended functions, and meets the needs of various stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff,
  • Ensuring that all building designs comply with the local building codes, safety regulations, and accessibility standards. This includes adherence to zoning laws and university policies.
  • Working with budget constraints to deliver cost effective building solutions without compromising on quality or functionality.
  • Collaborating with other units such as landscape design unit, space utilization unit and others to create cohesive and integrated campus environments.
  • Overseeing the implementation of building projects from design to completion. This includes coordinating with contractors, managing timelines, and ensuring quality control.
  • Integrating cutting-edge technologies and innovative design solutions to enhance the functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability of campus buildings.
  • Enhancing the visual appeal of the campus through thoughtful and cohesive architectural design, contributing to a pleasant and inspiring learning environment.
